Australian Teacher Kerry Wallace-Massone took her first flight at the opening day of the DaVinci Challenge: Build a Drone Workshop for SuperHERo Girls at Glasgow Middle School funded by the Business Women's Giving Circle (BWGC). Mrs. Wallace was as excited as the fifteen scholarship winning girls. Ms. Wallace built and programmed at Foxcroft School as part of the Teachers Take Flight program on March 21 and 22 at Foxcroft School in Middleburg Virginia. She took her first flight right in front of the girls!
The girls began the workshop with the assembly of their glass filled nylon quadcopter frames and then continued to attaching the Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs) and power distribution cable all under 1 hour!
The girls learned about the importance of their teams Engineering build log. They workshop is designed for students to create their own manual. This technique helps student process information about their build with pictures and descriptions. Students are also required to document any challenges they face and how that challenge was overcome through critical thinking and troubleshooting.
