About the Workshop

Over 160 teams worldwide used innovation to protect wildlife. The Wildlife Conservation UAV Challenge, led by Aliyah Pandolfi, Executive Director of KwF, inspired students to design and build unmanned aerial systems (UASs) to help rangers protect endangered rhinos and prevent poaching in South Africa. Following this success, KwF created the DaVinci Challenge: Build a Drone Workshop, giving U.S. students the opportunity to develop engineering skills, apply critical thinking, and tackle real-world challenges while designing, building, and programming drones to help conserve wildlife and ecosystems.

Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “Learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else.” At the Kashmir World Foundation (KwF), we embrace this philosophy to inspire curiosity, creativity, and meaningful action. When young people learn to observe the natural world with curiosity and care, they begin to understand how everything from animals and forests to rivers and skies is connected.

Today, scientists and conservationists are finding new ways to protect wildlife and ecosystems, using creativity, observation, and modern tools to better understand the world around us. Technology, when used thoughtfully, can help us care for nature, whether it’s monitoring animal habitats, studying migration patterns, or protecting endangered species.

Homeschool Discovery Day is a 2-hour hands-on outdoor experience where students explore the science of flight, wildlife conservation, and real-world discovery. Through engaging activities, students will learn how tools like drones help scientists safely observe ecosystems, monitor wildlife, and gather important information that…
