Desktop Application will help biologist detect and identify camera trap data quickly and efficiently.
Biologists set up camera traps in the field to study the habitat of endangered species. In the Himalayas, where snow leopards are found, conservationists want to understand their lifestyle, prey species, and behavior. The study area can range from 600 square kilometers to 1000 plus square kilometers. The terrain is treacherous and harsh to live in so a glimpse into the daily life of wildlife animals can help conservationists find new ways of protecting and preserving some of the world's most endangered species and their habitats. Camera traps are placed throughout the study area. Once the images are collected from the camera traps the long tedious job of going through individual images and labeling by detecting the species in the photo can day days if not months to complete. KwF has been working on a process to help make this process quicker and more efficient by applying artificial intelligence. With YOLOv5 KwF has trained thousands of images of different species of animals and now has a detection rate of 70% accuracy. KwF's goal to detect and identify wildlife species found in camera trap data will take months off the world of snow leopard biologists.
The camera trap study areas can range up to 1000 square kilometers.
Each study can have an upwards of 10,000 photos for biologists to sort through.
It can take biologists 4 months to process all the images.
